One of the most prevalent causes of bad breath, if not the leading cause, is dry mouth. When your mouth becomes dry, there is not enough saliva to wash away unwanted bacteria and food particles. These items will cause bad breath.

There are various reasons why one may be experiencing dry mouth, including tobacco use, dehydration and certain medications. Dry mouth can also increase the chance of developing an oral infection or suffering from tooth decay as well.

The best way to treat bad breath is to continually sip on water throughout the day, especially if you start to feel a bit parched. Additionally, avoiding substances that may contribute to the problem, such as coffee, alcohol and tobacco, is vital in the prevention of dry mouth and bad breath.

By practicing good oral hygiene, however, you can remove harmful bacteria and food particles and let your saliva naturally hydrate your mouth.

The best way to practice good oral hygiene and eliminate bad breath is to have an excellent daily care routine that consists of brushing the entire mouth twice a day and flossing. You can also use mouthwash at least once a day.
