Why do we need to take full set of radiographs?

General dentists can diagnose dental caries, periapical abscess, developmental anomalies, wisdom teeth and TMJ with the help of radiographs. Panoramic x-ray which shows TMJ and all the teeth will be taken as needed.

Our office at Oak Tree Dental is equipped with digital radiographs and panoramic machine. These will also reduce radiation compared to traditional radiographs.

How can we fix the cavities?

  • Fillings if the cavity is not too deep, with composite resin tooth colored material.
  • Root canal treatment, build-up and porcelain or zirconia crown if the cavity is too deep involving the nerve.
  • All ceramic crowns for front teeth as they are esthetically superior and natural looking.
  • Removal of tooth or tooth extraction when too much tooth structure is destroyed.

How to prevent cavities?

  • Oral Hygiene – twice a day brushing and flossing
  • Dietary modification- Limit frequent snacking sugar intake and also sticky foods
  • Avoid soda, energy drinks and sugary drinks
  • Regular dental check-ups and keep up to date with recall appointment.
  • Dental Sealants- sealants are clear composite material applied by your dentist and hygienist to prevent cavities on the back molars
  • Topical Fluoride application-Highly recommended for everyone and is proven to be effective in reducing cavities.
